Can I bring my own BBQ to parks in Boroondara?

While many parks allow portable BBQs, policies vary between councils. Most councils:

  • Restrict or ban charcoal BBQs in public spaces due to fire risk and cleanup concerns
  • May restrict gas BBQs during total fire ban days or high fire danger periods
  • Require BBQs to be elevated off the ground (not directly on grass) and attended at all times when in use
  • Expect you to clean up completely after use

Please check with Boroondara for their specific policy. For general advice, see our guide: Can I bring my own BBQ to a park or beach?

Can I book a BBQ facility for exclusive use?

Most public BBQ facilities operate on a first-come, first-served basis and cannot be booked for exclusive use.

However, you may need council approval or a booking for:

  • Large groups (typically 50+ people)
  • Events or functions that require exclusive park use
  • Setting up gazebos, marquees, or temporary structures
  • Commercial activities or fundraising events

Contact Boroondara directly for information about permits, bookings, and large event requirements.
